Federal Supply Code 1930, Barges and Lighters, Cargo, includes all barges and lighters meant for cargo use. Barges are towed or self-propelled flat-bottom vessels generally meant for the transport of heavy goods through rivers and canals. Lighters are traditionally unpowered flat-bottom vessels meant to transfer goods and passengers to and from moored vessels. FSC 1930 includes vessels such as aircraft lighters, car floats, and other transportation barges, depot barges, and scows.
